Keeper of the light fondly remembered

Grand Manan lost a valued member of the community on March 6 with the passing of Ken Ingersoll, a beloved lightkeeper who was the driving force behind the Swallowtail lighthouse restoration, along with his wife, Laurie Murison, who died in 2021.

Tide kills periwinkle picker; another hurt

One man was killed and a second was hospitalized when they were caught by the tide while picking periwinkles off Grand Manan's Castalia Marsh on February 19. Sanjaya Gurung, 39, died, while his companion is recovering. The men were employed by Benson Lobster; both were from Nepal.

Grand Manan activates emergency plan

The Village of Grand Manan announced on August 12 that it was activating Level 1 of its Emergency Measures Plan in response to the dry conditions and fire risk. Level 1 is a precautionary measure that involves "enhanced monitoring of conditions and increased readiness."
