During the October 21 meeting of the Lubec Select Board, the selectmen voted 5-0 to set the property tax rate for the upcoming commitment at 19 mills, an increase of 23.4% from the previous rate of 15.4.

Lubec lost another historic building on October 1, when the warehouse on the town dock adjacent to the state boat ramp burned to the ground, despite the dedicated efforts of both Lubec and Campobello firefighters. A total of approximately 32,000 gallons of water was pumped onto the blaze.

The first 2024 meeting of the Lubec Select Board, held January 3, attracted the full board but few members of the public. Most of the discussion centered on the topic of promoting the development of low- and fair-income housing, potentially based on unused land owned by the town.

The August 30 meeting of the Lubec Select Board opened with a full agenda, much of which was eventually tabled as the one and a half hour session was dominated by questions and comments about the recently received property tax bills.

Fluoride will be removed from Lubec's drinking water following a strong majority vote during the annual town business meeting on August 2. The fluoride issue generated the most discussion during the meeting when it came up under Article 60.
