Wind Power may be blowing Downeast

KEAN Energy LLC presented project details of its proposed small-scale wind farm to a crowd of 61 citizens in Lubec on October 6. The public forum was the third presentation by KEAN representatives in Lubec during the past few weeks.

KEAN Energy wind farm plan supported by Lubec selectmen

Both the Lubec Board of Selectmen and the planning board have received notice that KEAN Energy LLC is proposing a $10.5 million wind farm to be placed on property east of Route 191 in Lubec. The 4.5‐megawatt station would supply enough electricity to power nearly 1,800 homes.

Board for new school system sets lively tone

Lubec High School will be closing its doors for good this summer. By a close vote of 269 to 230, or 54% to 46%, Lubec residents decided on June 23 that operating the small high school is beyond the means of the taxpayers.

Dogs saved after falling through thin ice

Mary Sue Thompson of Whiting is very grateful to have her dogs Baxter, Chance and Morgan with her this holiday season. Thompson, owner of The Village Restaurant in Lubec, was home on the afternoon of December 8 when her golden retriever Morgan showed up on the doorstep soaking wet.

Memorial in Lubec to honor fishermen who are lost at sea

When the All American sank off of Lubec this past March, Shelly Corey Tinker started thinking about a way to memorialize her neighbor Loren Lank, who was lost in the accident along with crew member Logan Preston.

Campobello residents weigh rural community designation

An open house held on December 8 for the public to discuss whether to establish a rural community on Campobello Island was attended by more than 30 islanders. A second session was held on the evening of December 10.
