School board eyes cutting 10 positions in budget proposal

Teachers, city officials and members of the public turned out on May 12 for a budget workshop at Shead High School during which the Eastport School Committee recommended cutting 10 positions, which would amount to $265.422.78 in savings for the 2010-2011 budget.

Halie & Matthew joins humanitarian relief effort to Haiti

A schooner familiar to Eastporters has been chartered to bring relief supplies to the earthquake victims in Haiti. The Halie & Matthew is assisting the relief vessel Liberty in delivering nearly 45,000 pounds of needed food and medical items.

Fishing boat feared to have sunk; two fishermen mourned

The search for two White Head fishermen who did not return home on Thursday, February 11, was suspended by the Canadian Coast Guard after a 24-hour search of the area in which their scallop dragger is suspected to have sunk.
