An Eastport woman residing at the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home celebrated her 110th birthday on Wednesday, February 20. Blanche Chevrier was born in Perry on February 20, 1898, to Captain Seward and Susan (Bulmer) Robinson, but the family moved to Eastport when she was two years old.
Raised with six brothers, Bion, Earl, Fletcher, Adenene, Harold and Amby, Blanche was fond of saying she was spoiled by them, as well as her dad.
She married Edmond Chevrier at St. Joseph's Church, Eastport, on February 2, 1914, and the couple were parents to Alice, Paul, Joe, Jack, Pat and Norma. Paul, Joe and Alice have passed away.
In addition to working in sardine factories as a packer, Blanche held jobs at three local clothing stores, Berman's, Kramer's and Unobskey's, and ran her own Quoddy Bay Restaurant. She also spent several years working for Father Pare at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Eastport as well as parishes in Connecticut, where she was also a practical nurse.
If anyone would like to send her belated birthday greetings, mail them to Blanche Chevrier c/o Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, 23 Boynton Street, Eastport, ME 04631.
