A preliminary report from a federal agency's investigation has found that the Woodland Pulp mill was negligent in not having sufficient safety measures in place to prevent and alert workers about the buildup of a highly toxic gas that caused the deaths of two employees at the mill this past winter.

The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office has determined that the fire at the Dennysville-Edmunds Congregational Church on July 20 was an act of arson. The early-morning fire had been contained to the outside of the building because of alert passersby and quick action by firefighters.
