NEARLY 600 PEOPLE viewed the exhibition of the Dunlap broadside of the
Declaration of Independence at the Tides Institute & Museum of Art in
Eastport on August 29 and 30. Shown looking over the broadside are
Michelle Wilson Stanhope (left) and Karen Flagg (right) in period
costume. The Maine Historical Society’s copy of the broadside, which is
on a statewide tour, is one of 26 surviving copies of the declaration
printed on July 5, 1776, and sent to the colonies to announce American
independence 250 years ago.
