Whiting residents pass industrial wind turbine moratorium
A Town of Whiting committee will be working over the next few months to draft an industrial wind turbine ordinance for the town. At a special town meeting held on November 9, residents voted 18 to 2 in favor of enacting the Industrial Wind Turbine Project Development Moratorium Ordinance.
Water district seeks 18.6% rate increase
The Passamaquoddy Water District (PWD) is again filing for a rate increase with the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC). The water district is seeking an 18.6% hike for all customer classes, which would amount to a $138,899 increase in revenues.

Sonar assists divers’ continued search for lost dragger’s crew
The search for two fishermen who have been missing since a sea urchin dragger sank on October 20 in Cobscook Bay has so far not yielded any results, but efforts will be continuing. With the October 20 sinking of the Bottom Basher, a 34-foot dragger out of Lubec, three lives were lost.
New international bridge set to open
Nineteen months after the start of construction, the new bridge over the St. Croix River connecting Calais to St. Stephen will be open for business.
