Baileyville favors bond float, waits for LP sale decision

Approximately 50 voters of the town of Baileyville, at a special town meeting held August 3, gave their approval for the town to float a bond in the amount of $2.5 million to assist in a financing package for Ecomelt Inc.

Smelting plant could employ 400 in county

Baileyville voters will be asked to approve a $2.5 million bond package as conduit financing for Ecomelt Corporation for a project that could ultimately employ as many as 400 people. The town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, at the Woodland Elementary School.

Quoddy Bay LLC announced on July 18 that the company plans to develop the Robbinston Inland Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Storage Project and will seek approval for the construction of three LNG storage tanks in Robbinston.

A junkyard in Baileyville may be receiving salvage material that is being transferred from the Harry Smith Jr. junkyards in Meddybemps.

A proposal to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Robbinston brings to two the number of sites being considered in Washington County. On July 11, Downeast LNG announced its plans to build an LNG terminal at Mill Cove in Robbinston.

Boat School given 11th hour reprieve as funding sought

Just before a July 15 deadline to come up with funding to cover a shortfall at the Washington County Community College's Marine Technology Center in Eastport and prevent its move to the Calais campus, the money appears to be forthcoming.
