Old fair tradition back in Pembroke On Saturday, August 25, the Pembroke Trotting Association put on the first Farm and Horse Fair the town of Pembroke had seen in years. Activities included live music, good food, crafts and quilts for sale, and horse races.
Crime wave not flooding Lubec For the past several years the Town of Lubec has contracted with the Washington County Sheriff's Department for additional law enforcement coverage. The most recent contract was approved by voters during the August 2011 annual meeting for the amount of $173,860.
Plundering pirates invade, raid, parade The streets of Moose Island were full of costumed visitors and residents having fun at the seventh annual Eastport Pirate Festival held on September 7, 8 and 9. "All indications are that it was absolutely fabulous," says a happy Chris Brown, one of the festival organizers.

Prison security decreased to minimum level After 27 years as a minimum to medium security prison, Down East Correctional Facility in Machiasport officially changed to a minimum security prison in June of this year. The difference will affect the type of inmate housed at the prison.
