FOUR BOATS

FOUR BOATS that were berthed at the Eastport Fish Pier broke free when lines parted during high winds early in the morning of January 8. Draggers owned by Scott Emery, Stanley MacNichol and Butch Harris and a skiff owned by Greg Biss went ashore, with a pipe breaking a hole in Emery’s Pauline N. A Cooke Aquaculture barge and David Pottle’s boom truck were used to help with the rescue effort, with the temperature at -10 F. The boats were refloated on the incoming tide. Fisherman Jeff Smith comments, “We’re fortunate here to have a tight-knit community to come out and help each other on the coldest day of the year.” (Edward French photo) Subscribe to Quoddy Tides Rates:$31.65 a year in Washington County, Maine (tax included) $36.93 a year in Maine, but outside of Washington (tax included) $35.00 a year in Canadian funds Single copies: $1.25 Subscribe to Quoddy Tides Rates:$31.65 a year in Washington County, Maine (tax included) $36.93 a year in Maine, but outside of Washington (tax included) $35.00 a year in Canadian funds Single copies: $1.25
