Despite the pandemic, local community groups are once again spreading cheer this holiday season by providing food and gifts to their neighbors in need.

Grand Manan resident Jeanne Ingalls, 91, combines creativity, recycling and goodwill by recycling used greeting cards into booklets that she gives to others at Christmas and other occasions.

With cases of COVID-19 continuing to spike in Washington County since the beginning of the fall, the virus is affecting more and more families Downeast. A total of 240 new cases were reported in the county in the past two weeks.

The window opened a crack in November but then slammed shut just days before Christmas.

When asked about rescue pets, people far and wide Downeast and in the Fundy Isles immediately beam with delight at the stories they have to share. If they don't have one themselves -- and this appears to be a rare state of affairs -- they know many who do and have happy anecdotes to relay.
