This Memorial Day will be observed during the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War in the United States, after an attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor. Following the war, flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers, beginning in May 1868.

Providing Native children who were taken from their families and suffered abuse in foster care in Maine the chance to tell their stories may not only unearth the truth about the child welfare system and help with their own healing but may also cause that system to be changed.

A coyote mistook an Edmunds hunter for a turkey on April 30, the first day of Maine's turkey hunting season, and sent him to the hospital for several bite wounds.

A longtime local fishing vessel will be used to ferry passengers between Eastport and Lubec this summer. Captain Steven Pagels of Downeast Windjammer Cruises now owns the Quoddy Dam and will use it as a ferry for four round trips daily, except on Mondays, starting in late June.
