Mary Sue Thompson of Whiting is very grateful to have her dogs Baxter, Chance and Morgan with her this holiday season. Thompson, owner of The Village Restaurant in Lubec, was home on the afternoon of December 8 when her golden retriever Morgan showed up on the doorstep soaking wet.

As of January 1, 2010, Eastport will be without a city manager. At the December 14 city council meeting, Eastport city councillors accepted the resignation of long-time City Manager George "Bud" Finch, effective December 31.

Scallop fishermen in Cobscook Bay have been finding good catches this year, following the opening of the season on December 15. About 70 draggers have been fishing, according to Marine Patrol Officer Russell Wright of Lubec, with perhaps a third of the vessels coming from ports outside of the bay.

Efforts to raise a sea urchin dragger that sank this year in Cobscook Bay are expected to continue in the coming days. The boat, believed to be probably the All American, was located by members of the Maine State Police dive team on December 7 near Reversing Falls, Pembroke.

An open house held on December 8 for the public to discuss whether to establish a rural community on Campobello Island was attended by more than 30 islanders. A second session was held on the evening of December 10.

After over 14 years as Eastport city manager, George "Bud" Finch has submitted his resignation, to be effective December 31. The city council is expected to consider the resignation at its December 14 meeting.
