David Etnier, deputy commissioner for the Department of Marine Resources (DMR), announced at the Cobscook Fisheries Forum in Eastport on October 18 that the agency has begun discussion of possible new regulations governing rockweed harvesting in Maine.

With a 96% decline in recorded Maine scallop landings from the top year in 1980 to last year, the Department of Marine Resources (DMR) is planning several changes in the fishery to stem the collapse of the resource.
