A series of photos and video of dead sharks posted on social media and subsequently obtained by CBC has sparked an investigation by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

The bodies of two women were found in their car in waters off Roque Bluffs on Tuesday, July 23, after being the objects of two searches that day. Amy Stiner, 37, of Machias and Melissa Moyer, 38, of Sunbury, Pa.

"The economic effect extended over a 50-mile radius," says Carol Dennison, president of the Cobscook Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, "not just Lubec and Campobello." She surveyed chamber members, many located well outside of Lubec, following the recently concluded Bay of Fundy International Marathon.

Reducing the impact of lobster lines on whales and limiting the resulting cost of gear changes to lobstermen will be the subject of hearings being held by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) next month in Maine.

It was a tense special meeting held by the Calais City Council on the evening of June 20. The council was in the unenviable position of having to come up with a fiscal year 2014 municipal budget that would keep the mill rate close to its current level of 23.

The finish line was on Lubec's Water Street, but the starting point was at the West Quoddy Head Light, and also a year earlier. Four hundred and forty-seven runners completed the first Bay of Fundy International Marathon on June 23, and another 270 finished the 10-kilometer race.
