Area communities to celebrate holidays with events, parades

Eastport

A Christmas Market will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eastport Arts Center (EAC).

A Santa Seaside Workshop and downtown scavenger hunt will be held beginning on Saturday, November 29, and running each Saturday through December from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eastport Port Authority Welcome Center.

Quoddy Voices will hold its annual holiday concert on Friday, December 5, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 7, at 3 p.m. at the Eastport Arts Center. Tickets are available on the EAC website.

Eastport's March of the Reindogs and Caroling Parade will pass from in front of the port authority to the fisherman statue on Saturday, December 6, at 4 p.m. with the arrival of Santa at the breakwater by boat. He will then parade down Water Street and visit with children at the lobster trap tree. That same day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. a horse and buggy will be offering free rides through downtown.

The Eastport Art Center's Festival of the Trees will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the EAC. Funds from tree purchases benefit the EAC.

The Home for the Holiday tour of decorated Eastport homes will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online from the Eastport Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Moose Island Follies will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at the EAC. Tickets will be available through the website. Then the Great Sardine and Maple Leaf Drop and fireworks will be held, with the maple leaf drop at 11 p.m. followed by the sardine drop at midnight.

Machias

A Parade of Light is scheduled on Saturday, December 6, at 6 p.m. followed by fireworks. The route goes from Machias Memorial High School to Broadway to Main St. and ends at the Varney Agency.

The Nutcracker will be coming to University of Maine at Machias on Saturday, December 13, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the UMM box office or online.

Lubec

The international bridge to Campobello will be lit on Friday, December 5, at 5:30 p.m. A tree lighting will follow in Lubec at Flatiron Corner.

The Lubec Christmas parade will be held on Sunday, December 7, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Lubec Elementary School with a theme of "Christmas Gifts of the Sea." Participants should line up at 5:30 p.m.

A children's Christmas program with snacks, games and appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Masonic hall in Lubec.

Christmas Pudding, an event with stories and songs, will be held on Saturday, December 20, at 2 p.m. at the Lubec Memorial Library. Refreshments will be served.

Calais

The Downeast Wabanaki Winter Market will be held on Friday, December 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wabanaki Culture Center, 39 Union St. Art, handicrafts and baked goods will be available.

The Lioness Christmas Parade occurs on Friday, December 5, at 6 p.m. Following the parade, children can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at Flat Iron Park. On parade night, businesses offer their Moonlight Madness sales and discounts.

The annual cookie sale is set for Saturday, December 7, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., or until the cookies sell out, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 29 Church Street.

The 9th annual Feztival of Trees will take place on Friday, December 12, and Saturday, December 13, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, December 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the gymnasium within Washington County Community College. Decorated trees will be raffled off benefiting the Shriners Club's charities.

The Calais 8th Grade Holiday Craft Fair fundraiser is set for Saturday, December 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calais Middle/High School.

Machiasport to Ellsworth

A holiday craft show, bake sale and Chinese auction will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Henry D. Moore Library and Community Center of Steuben.

The Parade of Lights will be held on Saturday, November 29, at 5 p.m. in Jonesport. Santa and cookies will follow the parade at the Jonesport Fire Station. Fireworks will be at 7 p.m.

A homemade dinner will be served on Friday, December 5, at Jonesport's Community of Christ Church. Tickets can be purchased by emailing <sharontchurch@yahoo.com>.

A winter craft fair will be held on Saturday, December 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fort O'Brien School, Machiasport.

The Nutcracker will be presented on Saturday, November 29, at 2 p.m. at The Grand theater in Ellsworth. The musical, How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss, will be staged on Thursday, December 4, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through the theater. The Christmas Parade of Lights will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 4 p.m. in downtown Ellsworth.

Beth's Trees of Hope Festival will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Maine Coast Mall, Ellsworth. The trees will be raffled off with proceeds benefiting the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center.

St. Stephen

A Christmas Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, November 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Stephen Legion, 43 Queen St., benefiting the animals at the Charlotte County SPCA.

The Walk of Lights will be held on Friday, November 21, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the waterfront. During that same day, downtown businesses will be holding a dollar sale and that evening from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. a Moonlight Madness Market will showcase vendors and treats at the Garcelon Civic Center.

A Christmas Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, November 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 59 Union Street. A Christmas Market will be held that same day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mayfield Garden, 53 Route 170.

A lighting ceremony and holiday festivities will be held on Friday, November 28, at 6 p.m. in Memorial Park in Milltown. A Black Friday Gift Gala with vendors is scheduled for the same day from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Garcelon Civic Center.

A Christmas Craft Market will be held on Saturday, November 29, at 43 Queen St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Christmas crafts and bake sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Patrick's Hall, 407 Milltown Blvd.

The St. Stephen Christmas parade will be held on Friday, December 5, at 6 p.m., winding from the Ganong factory to Ferry Point bridge. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., families are invited to experience crafts and meet Christmas characters at the Garcelon Civic Center.

St. Andrews

Deck the Walls: Folklore and Fables, featuring local artists, takes place through December 22 at the Sunbury Shores Arts & Nature Center, St. Andrews.

An antique and collectibles sale will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at All Saints Church Hall, 75 King St.

The lobster‑trap tree and other decorations will be lighted in town hall and Market Square on Friday, November 28, at 5:30 p.m.

The Firemen's Santa Claus Parade, featuring floats, lights and Santa himself, will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 5:30 p.m. down Water Street in St. Andrews.

Christmas Fest will take place on Saturday, December 13, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Market Square. Live music, firepits, a Christmas village and contests are planned.

A Tinsel and Tidings Christmas Concert will be held on Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m. at Wesley United Church.

The St. Andrews Community Players will present Pirates of the Passamaquoddy, a pantomime show, December 20 through December 23. Tickets can be purchased through the W.C. O'Neill Arena Complex, 24 Reed St.

The Festival of Trees will be held from November 29 through January 2 at the Algonquin Resort.

A Christmas Farmers Market will be held on Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sir James Dunn Academy.

The Dwaine Williams Memorial Hockey Game takes place on Thursday, December 6, at 2 p.m. at the W.C. O'Neill Arena Complex.

Campobello

The Campobello Island Festival of Trees, hosted by Roosevelt Campobello International Park, will be held on Friday, December 5, from 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, December 6, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, December 7, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Adams Lodge. Admission is free, with donations to the local food bank accepted. Prizes will be drawn on Sunday at 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Wilson's Beach Community Cemetery.

Grand Manan

Santa Claus will be appearing during the island's annual Christmas parade on Saturday, November 29, at 6 p.m. It starts at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Ingalls Head and ends at the Grand Manan Community Centre.
