The prospect of further tax increases dominated the February 10 meeting of the Lubec school board, despite a limited turnout. Snowed out of the customary first Thursday meeting date, the rescheduled date attracted a crowd of eight participants plus four members of the board.

Ninety plus miles of shorefront presents a tempting target for clamdiggers, including those who do not belong there. This is particularly so for those from towns lacking such a lucrative asset.

A listening session focused around the sardine industry was hosted by the Penobscot Marine Museum on November 12 at the Lubec Community Outreach Center. Those invited were any who had participated in the Lubec sardine industry and any who were interested in hearing what they said.

During the October 21 meeting of the Lubec Select Board, the selectmen voted 5-0 to set the property tax rate for the upcoming commitment at 19 mills, an increase of 23.4% from the previous rate of 15.4.
