Whiting voters accept proposal to buy and repair Mill Pond dam
By more than a two-to-one margin, Whiting voters approved plans for taking ownership, including maintenance obligations, of the Mill Pond dam. The vote took place during a special town meeting held November 29 at the town office; it attracted 55 registered voters.
Two snowy owls in distress rescued
Two snowy owls in distress, one in Eastport and one in Baileyville, were rescued the week of November 22 and taken to an avian rehabilitation organization. So far one has survived and is on the mend and one has not.

THANKING HOSPITAL ANGELS. One of 15 floats that participated in this year's Machias Community Christmas Parade on December 3 was created by volunteers from Down East Community Hospital and Calais Community Hospital. The angel-themed float offered a big 'Thank You to Our Hospital Angels!' See this
