Ranked-choice voting to be decided
Ranked-choice voting will come before Maine voters again in a referendum question during the June 12 primary election. Since this is an off-year, June election, voter turnout could be light, which is unfortunate for such an important question.

On June 14 the Lubec school board declined for the fourth time to pass the proposed school budget. Board member Wanda Matthews said that the budget as written is "quite an increase" and added, "There are ways we could have cut.
Kayaker from Eastport dies; body found near The Wolves
A 32-year-old kayaker from Eastport died from hypothermia after his kayak overturned, and he was later found near The Wolves, between Blacks Harbour and Grand Manan, about five miles beyond the northern tip of Campobello.
Flag-waving Fourth finalized
The Eastport 4th of July Committee has completed this year's schedule, and a highlight of the festivities will be the presence of a U.S. Navy vessel.
CRH to sever management ties with Quorum
A controversial 31-year management relationship between Calais Regional Hospital (CRH) and Quorum Health Resources has ended. CRH CEO Rodney Boula announced the news in early June. CRH board Chair Ronald McAlpine explains, "As a board we discussed the issue. It was mutually agree upon with Quorum."
British departure to be marked
Events to mark the 200th anniversary of the British departure from Eastport in 1818 will be held throughout the day on Saturday, June 30, and include historical reenactments, music, a horseshoe tournament, outdoor cooking demonstration, children's games and more at the bottom of Key Street.
