Former Calais police officer charged with drug trafficking

A former officer with the Calais Police Department has been arrested after allegedly providing drugs to a student at Narraguagus High School. Jeffrey Bishop, 53, of Cherryfield left the Calais department less than a week before he was arrested on the drug-trafficking charges.

Eastport council fires city manager

The Eastport City Council voted to terminate the contract of City Manager Thomas Hoskins and end his employment with the city during a special city council meeting on January 27.

County vaccine roll-out facing high demand with limited supply

Demand is higher than supply with Washington County and the state's COVID 19 vaccine roll out. At his weekly briefing held on February 9, Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) Director Dr. Nirav Shah said, "The supply of vaccine remains incredibly constrained at this time."

Police chief declines offer to return to job

Peter Harris has decided not to return as Eastport police chief. He told city council President Billy Boone of his decision on Friday, January 15. On January 4 the council had voted to reinstate Harris as police chief, after he had been fired by City Manager Thomas Hoskins on September 28.
