Given the recent events of crippling hurricanes in Texas, Florida and now Puerto Rico, their combined timing and devastation will certainly spark debate about climate change.

Hurricanes Irma and Maria left behind horrible conditions in their paths through the Caribbean last month, and, in the case of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, everyone with Eastport area connections is safe, but a Quoddy Village resident is very worried about his family and friends in Puerto Rico.

As part of an effort to spur economic development and attract young families and telecommuters to the city, Eastport hosted a two-day visit by representatives from Smart Growth America, resulting in six action plans that residents will work on to market the city.

Today, it seems the fabric of life is often soaked in terrible stories of grief. With the recent events of cataclysmic weather in the form of three hurricanes and the horrific tragedy in Las Vegas, Nev., it is tough to dodge terrible news and look forward to tomorrow.
