Gardner named new port authority
Chris Gardner of Dennysville was selected as the new port director at the May 8 special meeting of the Eastport Port Authority board of directors. Gardner fills the port director position held by John Sullivan, who resigned effective December 31, 2006.

School budget plan in Eastport seeks 3% local share hike
With a drop in state subsidy of nearly $65,000 for the Eastport school system, Superintendent Arthur Wittine has proposed a draft budget that requests a 3% increase in local tax funding and eliminates the art program at Shead High School.

Sheriff's department baffled by 70 missing guns
