A KEY EMPLOYER
A KEY EMPLOYER for Irish immigrants in the area was the Pembroke Iron
Works, built on the Pennamaquan River in 1828 and at one point producing
5,000 tons of iron goods a year until it burned down on February 14,
1883. From there, many Irish went to work for the sardine factories in
Eastport.
