Rena Newell, who has been serving as the Passamaquoddy tribal representative in the Maine Legislature, has been elected the new tribal chief at Sipayik. Newell received 229 votes in the September 8 general election, defeating the incumbent chief, Elizabeth "Maggie" Dana, who garnered 120 votes.
