Cooke lays off 90 employees at salmon processing plants

Cooke Aquaculture laid off 90 workers at its Blacks Harbour and Beaver Harbour salmon processing plants on January 27. The company took the action because production has been down in recent years and as part of its consolidation following the acquisition of Marine Harvest's east coast operations.

Cooke to net former Stolt salmon farms

After more than eight months of negotiations, Cooke Aquaculture Inc. of St. George acquired the former Stolt Sea Farm's east coast farming and processing assets during the last week of December.

Quoddy Bay LNG proposal filed with FERC

Quoddy Bay LLC on December 16 filed its pre-application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to construct a $500-million liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility at Split Rock, Pleasant Point, and a storage facility in Perry.

Another name change and the announcement of a new partner for a proposed Calais area liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility were revealed this past week. The third proposed LNG company in the Quoddy area, BP Consulting LLC, has undergone two name changes.

New co-op to plan marketing strategy for selling scallops

A new marketing cooperative, focused on the marketing of Cobscook Bay scallops and agricultural products, is planned for downtown Eastport by the Cobscook Bay Resource Center, which recently acquired a building at the head of the breakwater.
