Never has Baileyville Police Chief Bob Fitzsimmons felt such a pressing need for community members all over Washington County to get involved in helping to battle the escalating heroin and substance abuse problems the county is facing.

The decision by Whiting residents to make the town's ordinance governing wind turbines more restrictive has apparently not caused the wind energy company that has been eyeing a possible project in the area since 2010 to drop its plans.

Approximately 400 area residents came together as a community in the Gardner Gymnasium at Washington Academy on Saturday evening, April 9, to listen to a 17-member panel explain the seriousness of the drug abuse problem in Washington County and to attempt to find solutions to the issue.

The fear of failing a loved one with healthcare needs is very real. A man is knocked unconscious from a bad fall while out walking the dogs at night. He is discovered, and an ambulance whisks him away to a hospital.

Food will always draw a crowd, and the 2016 Washington County Food Summit held at Washington Academy on March 12 was no exception. With over 140 registered attendees, the full day of all things related to local foods was buzzing with panels, workshops and speakers.
