The tall ship that had been a centerpiece for this year's Eastport Pirate Festival was a victim of Hurricane Sandy in the early morning hours of October 29.

As this year's Veterans Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies are observed in the U.S. and Canada, more of the military service personnel are veterans of the war in Afghanistan.

Well-known biologist and environmental activist Alexandra Morton brought her salmon-farming presentation to Grand Manan on October 17, when she spoke to a small audience of about 20 at the Grand Manan Museum. Morton hails from Echo Bay, B.C.

The party of peacocks at Kingsbrae Garden in St. Andrews has been joined by two mature peacocks hailing from White Head Island off Grand Manan.

The streets of Moose Island were full of costumed visitors and residents having fun at the seventh annual Eastport Pirate Festival held on September 7, 8 and 9. "All indications are that it was absolutely fabulous," says a happy Chris Brown, one of the festival organizers.

On Saturday, August 25, the Pembroke Trotting Association put on the first Farm and Horse Fair the town of Pembroke had seen in years. Activities included live music, good food, crafts and quilts for sale, and horse races.
