On Saturday, August 25, the Pembroke Trotting Association put on the first Farm and Horse Fair the town of Pembroke had seen in years. Activities included live music, good food, crafts and quilts for sale, and horse races.

The streets of Moose Island were full of costumed visitors and residents having fun at the seventh annual Eastport Pirate Festival held on September 7, 8 and 9. "All indications are that it was absolutely fabulous," says a happy Chris Brown, one of the festival organizers.

The first visit by the cruise ship Grande Caribe to the City of Eastport on August 3 was a good practice run for the city, says businessman Chris Brown, who has worked on behalf of the Eastport Port Authority for at least seven years on the effort to bring small cruise ships to the city.

Joe Storey Sr., a bus driver for the Pembroke School Department for the past 25 years, recently won first place in the State of Maine driving skills competition. Storey will advance to the national competition, which will be held in July 2013.

Twenty minutes before the bridge anniversary ceremony started, the guest of honor vanished into the fog. Ten minutes before it started, the committee hustled to get more chairs unfolded.

The best laid plans, including business plans, sometimes have to be put aside or dramatically revised in the face of extraordinary circumstances.
