The Eastport Fourth of July Committee has planned another fun-filled celebration for all ages and is extending an invitation for all to attend this year's Old Home Week from July 1 through July 4.

The arrival of a new ferry is cause for celebration on Grand Manan, and islanders have many fun events scheduled beginning on July 1, Canada Day, and ending on Saturday, July 9.

Although not feeling well enough to attend this year's Walk for Wishes in Dennysville, a Pleasant Point teenager who is a double-lung transplant recipient and previously had her wish granted inspired many of the walkers who took part in the mile-and-a-half walk.

Providing Native children who were taken from their families and suffered abuse in foster care in Maine the chance to tell their stories may not only unearth the truth about the child welfare system and help with their own healing but may also cause that system to be changed.

This Memorial Day will be observed during the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War in the United States, after an attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor. Following the war, flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers, beginning in May 1868.

The shiny, burnished copper pail was being carefully held by the Native American woman as she led the group leaving the ceremony at Bad Little Falls in Machias. It is one of four special pails and contains water from the Atlantic Ocean.
