A coyote mistook an Edmunds hunter for a turkey on April 30, the first day of Maine's turkey hunting season, and sent him to the hospital for several bite wounds.

Ferry run between Eastport and Lubec to begin late June
A longtime local fishing vessel will be used to ferry passengers between Eastport and Lubec this summer. Captain Steven Pagels of Downeast Windjammer Cruises now owns the Quoddy Dam and will use it as a ferry for four round trips daily, except on Mondays, starting in late June.

Hospice enters into 30th year of caring
An organization of volunteers that has brought comfort to many Washington County residents and families is marking its 30th anniversary this year. Down East Hospice has been providing support services to the terminally ill and their families, as well as to those people who are experiencing grief.
