Robbinston Grade School students can rest easy knowing that they most likely will attend classes at the school in their town for the 2011–12 year.

Plans to replace Beatrice Rafferty School with a new K-8 building for Pleasant Point school children are proceeding, although funding has not yet been secured.

The students at the Robbinston Grade School may be attending classes at a different institution this fall with the possible closure of the school on the horizon. On Wednesday, June 1, the Robbinston School Committee will meet at 7 p.m.

The legislature's Education and Cultural Affairs Committee continued this week to consider 11 bills to amend the current school-funding formula that were the subject of a public hearing on May 4.

The Boat School will be ending its operations under Husson University after its obligations have been met with all current students during the 2011‑2012 school year. After a thorough review of its operations, the Husson board of trustees made the determination at a meeting held on April 20.

“It's Robin Hood in reverse," says Scott Porter, superintendent of AOS 96, of the state's Essential Programs and Services (EPS) funding formula for K-12 education that has been hurting rural school districts that have high property valuations and declining enrollments.
