A QUICK MOVING STORM

A QUICK MOVING STORM hit Downeast in the early morning hours of January 10. Significant rain with wind gusts over 60 mph in tandem with high tide forced most of the Machias downtown area and the temporary bridge spanning the dike area of Route 1 to be closed to traffic for about two hours. Court Street businesses including the town office remained closed for the entire day, and a Machias Select Board meeting was cancelled. See article in this issue.
