A couple of unusual lobsters have been caught by Grand Manan fishermen during the first two weeks of the season, quickly becoming famous across Canada and even overseas. First to hit the news locally was "Lucky," a pale blue lobster caught on November 21 by Robinson Russell.

One Grand Manan family had extra reason to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend, thanks to the quick action of some periwinkle pickers early on the morning of October 8.

An innovative project to rebuild populations of wild Atlantic salmon in New Brunswick rivers has been quietly under way in a corner of Grand Manan, and on June 8 another stage was marked with the introduction of over 700 more fish to the sea cages at Dark Harbour.

About 60 people attended a public meeting at the Grand Manan school on April 5 with representatives of Innergex, a Longueuil, Quebec-based company, that is proposing a wind farm at Dark Harbour on the western side of the island.
