At their August 13 meeting, Grand Manan's village councillors heard from a delegation of Ingalls Head residents concerned about dangerous dogs in their neighbourhood. Speaking on behalf of the group, Marilyn Guptill described an attack on her father's dog.

Three islands rely on backup power after cable damage

For a couple of weeks, Grand Manan, Campobello and White Head islands were powered by the Grand Manan generating station after damage to the undersea cable occurred on January 17. The cable casing was breached, possibly by a scallop dragger.

Canadian scallop fishery ends in a week

Bad weather hampered two Grand Manan fisheries recently, resulting in a delay of the scallop season opening. Frigid cold and high winds around Christmas kept many fishermen from taking up lobster traps in areas that would become scallop fishing areas in January.

A couple of unusual lobsters have been caught by Grand Manan fishermen during the first two weeks of the season, quickly becoming famous across Canada and even overseas. First to hit the news locally was "Lucky," a pale blue lobster caught on November 21 by Robinson Russell.
