Select board, budget committee clash in Lubec

Sharp disagreements between the Lubec Select Board and the budget committee set the tone for the annual town meeting held on August 4. It took three and a half hours to approve 48 articles, with 72 registered Lubec voters participating.

Ashby, Mulcahy win marathon

The finish line on Lubec's Water Street was crowded as 589 runners completed the three different races conducted by the third annual Bay of Fundy International Marathon on June 28. An army of approximately 250 volunteers, along with a year of planning, made the event happen.

Concerns about drug use spur discussion in Lubec with sheriff

Washington County Sheriff Barry Curtis and Chief Deputy Michael Crabtree met with a group of about 30 Lubec residents on May 18 to hear concerns about what is described as rampant drug use within the community. Curtis, who campaigned on county drug issues, said, "We're just a few minutes into this."

Lubec woman dies in Trescott accident

A Lubec woman died in a single-vehicle accident during the early November snowstorm that paralyzed much of the state. Danielle D. Moores, 28, died at the scene when her vehicle, a 2002 Ford F-250, flipped over and landed in five feet of water alongside State Route 189 in Trescott.

Lubec residents continue to grapple with the aftermath of the October 8 incident involving a school bus transporting students to Machias Memorial High School and Washington Academy that resulted in the arrest of teacher Deborah Bousquet by Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith.

On August 21 and 22 parts of Lubec's Water Street were returned to 1870, with characters walking the street and filling local restaurants while wearing period garb.
