Perry schedules public hearing, vote on tribe aviation project

Representatives of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point have formally requested the approval of a proposed airplane parts manufacturing and maintenance facility, on land annexed by the tribe from the Town of Perry.

The Pleasant Point Tribal Council voted on May 5 to continue to discuss with Smith Cogeneration-Quoddy Bay LLC plans to enter into an agreement to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Pleasant Point.

Another proposed project -- aviation maintenance and repair could be subject to an Article 40 vote by Perry residents. Passamaquoddy Lt. Governor Mark Altvater, accompanied by Rick Doyle and Cliv Dore, attended the April 4 meeting of the Perry selectmen.

Tidal energy project hailed at dedication

The nation's first commercial, grid-connected tidal energy project was dedicated in a ceremony held on July 24 in Eastport, as Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) officials played host to a gathering that attracted over 200 guests and speakers.
