BUDDHIST MONKS

BUDDHIST MONKS from the Ngari Institute of Ladakh, India ' Venerable Lobsang Damchoe, Rigzin Wangdu and Geshe Tsewang Dorje ' are seen with community members on the fish pier on Sunday, November 17, at the end of the Great Compassion Mandala Tour's five-day visit in Eastport. The mandala that was created by the monks during their visit to spread compassion to all beings was destroyed as a demonstration of impermanence in life. A short ceremony was performed at the pier before sand from the mandala was poured into the ocean. A group of volunteers from throughout Washington County supported the mandala tour's stop at the StudioWorks Residency Program at the Tides Institute & Museum of Art. See this issue for more on the visit. (Quoddy Tides photo)
