FAREWELL TO A COMMUNITY LANDMARK

FAREWELL TO A COMMUNITY LANDMARK
FAREWELL TO A COMMUNITY LANDMARK. The nearly 100-year-old St. Ann's Church at Sipayik was torn down on September 20 by DeFranzo Demolition Corporation. A small crowd watched, with a number expressing sadness and crying when the cross was knocked off the church. Although efforts to save the church have been ongoing for the past 10 years, both the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and the tribal government at Sipayik agreed on the demolition, paid for by the diocese.
