Teams testing spill response pour into area
In an exercise to test the joint U.S. and Canadian response to an oil spill along the border between the two countries, hundreds of federal, state and provincial responders assembled in Calais and Saint John last week. The Canuslant exercise is held every other year.

From color-filled pageants to heart-throbbing dory races, Lubec's Fourth of July program, planned by committee members Dana-Lee McConnell, Sherri Pike and Mary Ramsdell, will stretch the nation's birthday into nine days of everyone-together celebration.
Local marathon participation runs high
The finish line was on Lubec's Water Street, but the starting point was at the West Quoddy Head Light, and also a year earlier. Four hundred and forty-seven runners completed the first Bay of Fundy International Marathon on June 23, and another 270 finished the 10-kilometer race.
