After three years of operating higher education classes at the Unobskey College in Calais, Husson University has decided to cease that part of its educational programming.

Robbinston voters soundly defeated the local school budget of over $944,000 that was put to referendum vote on August 24 as part of the budget validation process, after initially approving the budget a week before.

Lubec High School will be closing its doors for good this summer. By a close vote of 269 to 230, or 54% to 46%, Lubec residents decided on June 23 that operating the small high school is beyond the means of the taxpayers.

Passamaquoddy elder and educator Wayne Newell has been appointed by President Obama as a member of the National Advisory Council on Indian Education. "This is such an honor, and I am delighted," Newell says. Newell lives in Indian Township, where he has worked in Native education for 40 years.

On Wednesday, June 23, Lubec residents will decide by referendum vote whether to close or keep open the Lubec High School. The referendum is required since the MSAD 19 board of directors voted 4-1 to close the high school at an April 4 meeting.
