This year's 32nd annual Eastport Salmon and Seafood Festival will be held on Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, and organizers are promising that it will be "better than ever" this year. "We're adding a house tour on Saturday and open house for real estate agents," says Mary Repole.

The easternmost city in the U.S. will once again host the largest pirate festival in northern New England and the Canadian Maritimes. The festivities for the 14th annual Eastport Pirate Festival will be held on Friday, September 6, through Sunday, September 8.

While the Sipayik ambulance service stopped operating in May because of financial difficulties, the service is being reorganized and expected to start again, although a startup date has not been determined.

It didn't take long for Eastporters to realize that a documentary film crew was in town August 8 through August 15.

When a brownfields program is successful, no one notices. "It's a lot like planning and engineering. People only notice when it doesn't work," says Judy East, executive director of Washington County Council of Governments, which works on brownfields projects in the county.
