Two of President Obama's Cabinet secretaries visited Pleasant Point on August 18 as part of a new initiative to reform the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) and improve the quality of education received by Native students in the U.S.

On the evening of August 4 the Robbinston school board struggled to come up with $67,933 in cuts to the school system budget. The board was required to do so by the town's voters at the July 28 budget referendum vote that saw townspeople uphold the budget that had been reduced.

Robbinston School Committee Chair Tom Critchley is not confident that the local grade school could be kept open this coming year if voters approve the school budget at the Monday, July 28, budget validation vote.

At a non-binding referendum on June 15, Robbinston voters showed -- by a vote of 110 to 80 -- that they would support closure of the Robbinston Grade School and the tuitioning of all students to Calais.

In a lopsided referendum, Lubec voters have rejected plans to demolish the shuttered high school wing of the Lubec Consolidated School.
